Debt and procrastination are the same at the most fundamental level: they both reduce or remove your opportunity to choose.
You make one choice at the beginning: to charge something or to put off doing a task, and as time goes on, the opportunity to choose becomes less and less yours.
You are stuck paying a minimum payment on your credit card . Your options for housing, transportation, and even jobs can often end up being decided for you based on your debt.
If you put off doing a task too long it usually doesn’t go away. You just reach the point at which you have no choice but to stay up all night and get it done.
There was a point though, remember, when the choice was still in your hands.

I have a feeling that a lot of people are in that place where they have decided to just kind of stop caring about their debt – it’s become so extreme that between student loans and credit card debt, I think people are shifting to seeing debt as something we have to live with for the duration of our lives as opposed to something we have to deal with for a short time on the way to getting rid of it. I’m not sure that’s a good thing though.
This is a very interesting way to make the point that with procrastination comes a cost. With Debt, the cost is obviously interest payments. With procrastination in addition to working harder to get the job done, it could also be working without expert help you might have been able to access if you’d reached out before the last minute. Or in the case of hiring an employee it could mean fewer choices as some of them accept other offers.

For me… the procrastination only makes the debt worse. If I would clear up my desk and get a few things done, I would be able to be more productive and make more money and have less debt. Thanks for the reminder! Off to clean out some desk drawers today!
